Michael Wall has been part of the S.P.A. fam for a while now. We first partnered with him for a charity fundraiser back in 2022 and he’s working with us again in 2023.
Our next Curators Club event - Tues 15th August, 18:00, Redchurch Street Studio - will be an art exihibition showcasing works from his No Clipping series.
He’s also designed a limited t-shirt capsule that we will be selling on the night.
Apart from all of that, he’s just a top bloke and and even topper artist. Check out his website here to get more a flavour of what he’s all about, then, read on to hear what he’s got to say for his edition of the Culture Guide.
To get you lubed up, here are some words from Mike:
“I'm an Artist. I work in painting, sculpture and New media. My work focuses around contemporary myth-making and folktales, exploring the relationship between storytelling and technology in today’s society."
Tell us about the most exciting recent project you have worked on - either personally or professionally…
The S.P.A. Collab, what else can I say?
I was really lucky to work with some fashion brands earlier in my career but recently I have had a break from these collaborations. I forgot that they're the most fun projects for me. I think the collaborative nature gives me weirdly more creative freedom. I think I might be my biggest critic, I have a habit of overworking ideas, and having that additional external input helps nullify this for me.
Please tell us which piece from the S.P.A. collection you’re wearing and what you have styled it with.
I’ve got the Top Cuvée collab piece on that I picked up at the SPA lads’ last pop-up. Styling it with my paint smocks for the ultimate disrespect (I don’t actually paint in this t-shirt, don’t worry Jonas & Simon).
TRACK OR ALBUM: what's your favourite atm and why?
Boubouche by Odezenne. I just got back into running so this is just on repeat every time.
RESTAURANT: what's your favourite where you’re living atm and why?
I live 100m from a Greggs, but for a sit-down affair it’s got to be Casse-Croute.
MUSEUM / GALLERY: what's your favourite where you're living atm and why?
Staffordshire St Gallery. Easy.
CLUB / NIGHTLIFE: what's your favourite spot where you're living atm and why?
In all reality I spend most of my nightlife in a pub. The Prospect of Whitby was the last one I went to with the S.P.A. boys. Check it out, it’s the oldest pub in London and it’s down in Wapping.
SHOPPING: what’s your favourite hidden gem of a shop to go clothes shopping where you’re living atm and why?
I tell whats a hidden gem, St James Super Market. No clothes but 24-hour potato pastries.
FILM: what’s the best film you’ve watched recently and why?
I rewatched Aliens for the first time in along time last week. 10/10.
TV: what’s the best series you’ve watched recently and why?
Severance. The opening credits alone are great
Anything else you want to add?
